Zamboanga City has authorized barangay tanods to oversee traffic control and uphold traffic regulations within their respective barangays.
Approximately 500 tanods representing 98 barangays have received training in traffic control and enforcement to serve as traffic enforcers.
They have been educated on the proper implementation of traffic laws, especially on main roads.
The training took place between August 5 and August 9, 2024.
As per the local authorities, the designated barangay traffic enforcers are empowered to issue traffic violation tickets.
The deputization of barangay tanods is in accordance with the Barangay Traffic Management and Enforcement Ordinance.
