Happening at the moment is the 2024 Drum and Lyre Competition at the City Coliseum in Tetuan with a total of 13 participants for the 3 categories- Elementary, Secondary and Open.
Meanwhile, hip-hop dance artists and enthusiasts, mostly young adults will converge Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 19, also at the Coliseum in Tetuan for the “Concurso de Hip-Hop” as part of the 88th Dia de Zamboanga Festival.
On Thursday, Feb. 20, another dance competition dubbed “Concurso de Cheerdance” will also be held at the same venue from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
On Friday, Feb. 21, birds watching or “Festival de Aves” will take place at the Bird Sanctuary at the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) in Rio Hondo from 9 a.m. onwards.
The activity will include photo exhibit and bird symposium until Feb. 22.
The “Dia de Zamboanga 2025 Bowling Tournament” will kick on Feb 21 at 8 a.m. at the Tebis and Sean Recreational Center at Gov. Camins, and will run until Feb. 23.
The cultural show billed “Concurso de Bailes Cultural” back-to-back with a culinary exhibit “Savores de Zamboanga” will fascinate Zamboanueños and visitors at the historic Plaza Pershing from 2 p.m. onwards.
The “Hermano” Art Exhibit on Feb. 22 and the Local Achievers’ Night on Feb. 24 at the Garden Orchid hotel at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
The public is likewise invited to the “Cine Chabacano Festival) at CityMall in Tetuan from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Feb. 23-25.
On Feb. 25, the activities include tourism souvenir contest “ Concurso de Recuerdo Turismo” at Grand Astoria Hotel, quiz bowl “Concurso de Saber” at Zamboanga Seafoods Restaurant in San Roque, and the colorful Fun Run and Mini Concert in Barangay Sinunuc.
On Feb. 26, the day Zamboanga City was chartered 88 years ago, the celebration will begin with the “Gran Programa de Justo Y Decente Ayuda para los Residentes” at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) gym in Baliwasan at 8 a.m.
The Philippine Map Collectors Society and National Museum of the Philippines Zamboanga will host the historical documentation dubbed “Zamboanga Encounters: Where Land Meets the Sea” at Fort Pilar Museum from 5 p.m. onwards.
