NAT’L MUSEUM-ZC MOUNTS 2 EXHIBITS

City Government of Zamboanga

The National Museum of the Philippines-Zamboanga (NMP Zamboanga) launches two new exhibits: “Tabawan: The Island of Pre-Islamic Rituals and Traditional Practices in Tawi-Tawi” and “Southern Philippines: Portal and Nexus of Barter, Trade, and Exchange,” Friday, October 18, 2024.

NMP Director Arvin Manuel Villalon and NMP-ZC Supervising Administrative Officer Maria Rosalinda Fernando led the ribbon-cutting ceremony along with representatives from the Department of Education, Department of Trade and Industry, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, and Universidad de Zamboanga.

“Tabawan: The Island of Pre-Islamic Rituals and Traditional Practices in Tawi-Tawi,” a photo exhibition by Paul Quiambao, is divided into seven sections that depict specific rituals in the life of the Sama Tabawan, beginning from their birth until their death in the earthly plane.

The “Southern Philippines: Portal and Nexus of Barter, Trade, and Exchange” reflects the centuries-old interconnections of trade and exchange between the islands in the southern Philippines and Southeast Asian nations.

The opening ceremony was well-attended by a group of individuals, including the local community, academic institutions, the press, and students, all eager to explore and appreciate our culture.

As the exhibits aim to attract visitors and spark interest in the region’s culture and traditions, NMP Zamboanga remains committed to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Southern Philippines for generations to come. (NMP-ZC) (photo credits: Kathy Wee Sit)
